Beginnings
Welcome to Furries.com.au! I’ve been sitting on the domain for a few months trying to figure out what I wanted to do with it and every time I basically came up with the same thing. I wanted some kind of community directory for the fandom to consolidate information like when meets/cons are on, and who our local artists are. But also I wanted it to become something more, a resource for people to share their knowledge and connect with each other.
I want our community, the furry fandom, to get bigger and stronger and more collaborative. I strongly believe we should be building each other up, supporting each other, and passing on our knowledge so that we can all benefit and grow together. To that end I’ve been thinking about some communal tenants or ideals that we should strive for, a direction to aim for as we create and develop.
Community — we should do things that allow our people, our community, to flourish and grow
Collaboration — we should work together when possible, giving opportunities to others in the community to assist or develop a new skill
Creativity — we should be willing to take risks and do things that haven’t been done before; be weird, be joyful, go forward with love
Certainly, it’s a long road to go. This is literally a barely functional Squarespace template with hardly any features, but it will work for now. The important thing is that we start.
And the only place we can start is at the beginning.

I am a (relatively) active member of the Melbourne community, I run events, regularly attend them when I can, and (full disclosure) I’m even on staff for MFC. I’ve also started to volunteer at some of the other conventions to build up my on-the-ground knowledge of how these larger events are run. I’m very keen to collaborate with people, so please reach out! (Particularly if you’re from other areas of the country, as you’ll be more cognizant of people and events in your own area)
For the time being I will be using a pen-name for blog posts, mostly because I don’t really want the focus to be on me, but rather on the events and people and writing hosted on this website.
